National Sports Day
“Talents win games, But teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
'Citius, altius, fortius!'- Faster, Higher, Stronger - The sole motive behind any sports event, be faster than them, higher than them, stronger than them and win. The importance of sports and fitness in one's life is invaluable. Playing sports inculcates team spirit, develops strategic & analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking.
A fit and healthy individual leads to an equally healthy society and strong nation.
Keeping up with this tradition and to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand, National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August, 2022.
The day is also dedicated to the Nations’ sports heroes and champions, honouring their contribution and dedication towards bringing laurels to the country.
With the aim to raise awareness about the values of sports: discipline, perseverance, sportsman spirit, teamwork, and to encourage public in large to take up sports and make it an integral part of their lives while emphasizing on the importance of being fit and healthy, GISU has always given paramount importance to sports and games in students’ life.
To inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork among children, the day was started by lightening up of the Torch by Learners and an oath ceremony was held wherein children pledged to bring glory to the school & nation by participating in various sports. Learners participated in different games like basketball, Throw ball, Netball, Badminton, Long Jump, High Jump, Kho- Kho, Kabaddi etc.
The sheer thrill and joy of winning the games was very much apparent on their faces as they also cheered for their friends. The experience was truly overwhelming which left the students yearning for more.
