SMMUN - Sunita's Makerspace Movement to United Nation
MUN, or Model United Nations, is a simulation of the United Nations and its various committees. It is a popular extracurricular activity in high schools across the world. It is an educational experience that teaches students about global issues, international diplomacy, and the UN system.
MUN involves honing of researching skills, public speaking, debating, writing skills as well as critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities of the students. Its main objective is to build stronger awareness of global issues and give students an opportunity to bring forth new ideas and solutions to the table.
Keeping this perspective in mind, Sunita’s Makerspace in collaboration with Gajera Trust organised Sunita’s Makerspace Movement to United Nations (SMMUN) on 12th and 13th January 2023. 80 students from Gajera Group Of Schools participated in the conference held at Gajera Vidyabhavan, Utran.
A delegation of 8 students representing Gajera International School, Utran actively participated in discussions and debates in committees like Lok Sabha, ,UNGA, UNSC, and Climate Change. Our students stole the show with their sharp formal attires and delivered impressive opening speeches. They were also seen formulating resolutions and debating with all their might to get their resolutions passed with majority votes.
Students were asked to play the role of diplomats and were assigned various countries to discuss global issues.
It was an amazing programme that taught students a lot about diplomacy and global politics. They learned about the importance of compromise and diplomacy in international relations and gained valuable insight into the dynamics of the global political system.
The conference concluded with the delegates presenting their resolutions and speeches. It was astonishing to see how passionate and informed the delegates were about their resolutions. Each delegate had put in hours of hard work and dedication to make the most of the event.
The closing ceremony of the event was held today i.e. on 13th January 2023 in the school ground, and it was a spectacular sight, with delegates from Gajera Group Of Schools coming together to celebrate their hard work and dedication.
The winning delegates were awarded certificates and were given special recognition. Finally, the closing ceremony ended with live performances like music and dance by the students which was followed by delegates thanking the school management for giving them this opportunity.
Overall, SMMUN turned out to be a wonderful event which gave a great opportunity to students to learn about international politics, diplomacy and global issues.
